General information only
The technical content on this website describes the consultancy services ThermoExpert provides. It is
general information about engineering practice. It is not a design, a calculation, a recommendation for a
specific plant, or advice you should act on for a particular installation.
Engineering work is project specific
Boilers, heat recovery steam generators, thermal oil systems and steam utility systems behave according
to their own design basis, fuel, operating conditions and site constraints. Sizing, performance and safety
conclusions valid for one plant can be wrong and unsafe for another. No content on this site should be
used as a substitute for a project specific thermal design, a hazard assessment, or a calculation carried
out against your actual operating data.
Codes, standards and statutory requirements
References to international codes and standards on this website describe the framework our work is
developed within. They are not a statement that any particular design, plant or piece of equipment
complies with a code. Compliance is established for a specific scope, against the edition of the code that
applies to the project, and statutory inspection and certification remain the responsibility of the plant
owner and the appointed inspecting authority.
Safety
Pressure equipment is hazardous. Overpressure protection, commissioning activities such as boiler light
up and steam blowing, and preservation and lay up procedures must be carried out under a project specific
procedure by competent people, with the plant’s own safety controls in place.
Deliverables under contract
Work carried out for a client under a signed scope is governed by that agreement. The scope defines the
design basis, assumptions, applicable codes, deliverables and the limits of our responsibility. Our work
supports, but does not replace, the equipment manufacturer’s design responsibility or the operator’s duty
to operate and maintain the plant safely.
Accuracy of information supplied to us
Consultancy outputs depend on the data provided by the client. Where data is missing, assumptions are
stated in the deliverable. If the supplied data or the stated assumptions are incorrect, the conclusions
drawn from them may also be incorrect.
No liability for site content
To the extent permitted by law, ThermoExpert accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from
reliance on information published on this website.
